Hideaki Morita, MD, PhD
Where do you work?
National Research Institute for Child Health and Development, Japan
What are your research interests?
My research interests focus on understanding how genetic predisposition and environmental exposures interact to drive the onset and progression of allergic diseases. I am particularly interested in elucidating the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which these genetic and environmental factors shape immune responses and contribute to disease heterogeneity. Ultimately, I aim to translate these mechanistic insights into improved diagnostic strategies and targeted therapies for patients with severe allergic and immunologic disorders.
What scientific achievements are you most proud of?
I am most proud of identifying novel monogenic variants in key type-2 immune signaling molecules, including STAT6 and JAK1, that cause severe allergic and immunologic diseases. In addition, I have helped elucidate how environmental factors trigger allergic inflammation through IL-33–mediated pathways, demonstrating a mechanistic link between epithelial stress responses and type-2 inflammatory activation. Together, these achievements highlight the importance of integrating human genetics with environmental immunology to better understand and treat severe allergic disorders.
